From the Mayor’s Office
By John D. McClung, Mayor

We have been trying to secure demolition funds for the past two years, so far without success. In trying to take a small step in that direction on our own, I’m suggesting and recommending that we take our message to the public and appeal for financial assistance though voluntary donations. This is an avenue that has not, to my knowledge, been explored but possibly may provide a means of initial financial support. I feel the great necessity of trying to start a program that will let our residents know that we can’t let this decay continue any longer. However, support is going to have to come from the community, former Richwooders, and, private funding that we haven’t yet discovered. A public appeal could be made via newspaper, radio, TV, and internet, as well as the old-fashioned “word of mouth.” This doesn’t mean that we won’t continue to work on state and federal assistance since this project is so voluminous. But I feel that it will let everyone know that we mean business and perhaps help our government funding application process.”

Mayor McClung is inviting contributors to make checks payable to:

City of Richwood Demolition Fund
6 White Avenue, Richwood
West Virginia 26261

or drop off at the City Hall.
