I
was born in Marlinton, West Virginia the oldest daughter of Lewis and
Edith Dilley. When I was seven years old my family moved to Richwood. I
attended Richwood Grade School and graduated from Richwood High School.
I am married to John Schoolcraft and we have 2 sons John II and Phillip. I
have lived in Richwood 53 years except for a short time when I lived up
Buffalo Creek in Logan County. That is a time in my life where I
appreciated Richwood the most. Coming from Richwood, where most
everyone is friendly, in Buffalo Creek all I knew was one neighbor.
I was so home sick at the age of 26 that I prayed for the phone to ring
even if it was the wrong number. When coal was king and Richwood
was booming, there was a shortage of houses but I said I’m going
home even if I have to pitch a tent. Luckily my husband was transferred
to Sewell Coal Company and we came home - back to Richwood. We
were fortunate to find our present home on Johnstown Road and have
lived here for 33 years. I retired
from the Nicholas County Board of Education with 30 years. I have
been employed at Milltown Grade School, Cherry River Elementary and
Richwood High School. I was also the internal auditor for Nicholas
County Schools and financial consultant to other secretaries in and out
of Nicholas County. Along with working for our school system I
taught Head Start for 7 years. I was also the manager of the Richwood
City Pool and bookkeeper for Hicks Service Station. During this time I
graduated from Glenville State College. At one time I had 3 family
members in college and could not have done it if it without my family
and friends. I
am a member of Faith United Methodist Church and serve as treasurer and
on several committees. I
am a number one fan of Richwood High School. Go Lumberjacks! I have
been an RHS Band Booster for 32 years. (7 years as president.)
I volunteer helping students apply for financial aid to attend college
and do taxes at the public library for anyone who needs help. Richwood
has given so much to me through the years, I am honored to serve as your
city recorder and I will use my skills to enhance the city in
any way. My door is always open and I am willing to talk to anyone
who has a question. If I don't know the answer I will find someone
who does. God
bless the USA, West Virginia, and the City Merry on the Banks of the
Cherry.
